Teaching & Learning Cleveland
This site is designed to promote, preserve and present student research projects, specifically those that document original or previously unpublished historical resources by and about institutions and individuals from throughout the region. Interns working in the field, graduate and undergraduate students in classrooms, and public school teachers from throughout the region create, maintain, and utilize the content of this site. This dynamic approach to teaching and learning is meant to foster a collaborative relationship between students, scholars, teachers, and regional cultural institutions; encouraging in students a sense of ownership over their own research, and entry into the evolving world of the humanities. Great Lakes Exposition 1936-1937
The Great Depression of 1929 left many with a need to reinvent and reinvestin their communities using the resources available to them. Cleveland jumped on the bandwagon to uplift itself both economically and emotionally with the development of the Great Lakes Exposition in 1936. Materials in the Cuyahoga County Archives collection were gathered, processed, and cataloged by student researchers from Cleveland State University Department of History, under the supervision of Dr. Mark Souther. Major themes in the collection include transportation, infrastructure development, veterans housing, civil defense, and urban revitalization.
