Cleveland Comes Full Circle

Lake Erie, the Ohio Erie canal and railroads combined to establish Cleveland as an industry and transportion center in the late 19th century. The canal map shows the extensive waterway system available for moving raw materials and finished product in and out of the Greater Cleveland area.  The ability to use the natural waterways enhanced the development of the area, bringing industry and population to Cleveland.  

Located between the iron ore region of Lake Superior and the coal fields of Ohio and western Pennsylvania, area industry grew with these accessable natural resources.  Cleveland became "the right place at the right time".
