National Fallout Shelter Survey

The 1990s brought the end of the Soviet Union and the Cold War.  With these events, fallout shelters were no longer necessary.  The shelters and their buildings still existed, of course, but the survey was discontinued.  Some shelter designation signs can still be found, and the records for the shelter facilities are being archived. However, this program will become another enormous project undertaken during the Cold War that will fade into history.
