WORLD VIEW:  Many of today’s popular forms of entertainment developed during the 1800s.  People had long enjoyed concerts, games, plays, and sports.  But as cities grew during the industrial age, the number and types of entertainment activities increased.  Large audiences now paid to hear professional musicians perform or to watch professional athletes compete.
