The Cuyahoga River: Flowing Through Time
Introduction
As Cleveland gradually moves away from heavy manufacturing and industry, the Cuyahoga River is beginning to return to a more natural state. Clevelanders have begun to see the river in a new light. There has been greater emphasis on the environment, in the wake of excessive pollution which had produced numerous fires directing negative publicity toward the city. Federal regulation, like the Clean Water Act of 1972, helped to improve the waters of the Cuyahoga. Big businesses no longer dump byproducts and industrial waste the way they had in the past. Federal departments like the Environmental Protection Agency provide enforcement of the legislation in place.
