What About the Ladies?

Lakewood League of Women Voters

The Lakewood League of Women Voters was formed in 1922.  The main objectives for their group were the following ideals:

  1. They wanted to promote an active interest in government and public policy for women;
  2. They wanted to educate women on their obligation to vote;
  3. They wanted to get programs and legislation passed quickly that would benefit women's suffrage and help the community.

Lakewood League of Women Voters was the first group in Ohio to receive the charter.  They started with 123 members and continued to grow throughout the years.

The women would send out monthly flyers to their members and to new recruits.  They would get their message out by showing slides before movie in theatres to encourage women 21 and over to vote.

The Voter is a publication sent out the the members of the League of Women Voters of Lakewood, Ohio for fundraising purposes.  In the publication, it details the expenses of the organization and how much money needs to be raised.  It continues to tell members how the money will be spent that is raised.  In addition, the leagues philosophy is printed in the beginning of the publication.

A list of books is provided at the end of the first page to encourage women to read and enhance one's knowledge about being a good citizen.

This publication was also used to encourage new women to join the League of Women Voters of Lakewood, Ohio.
