Men are attempting to extinguish the fire on the banks of the Cuyahoga River, known as the Flats. The fire was caused by an oil spill and debris in the water.

In 1952 the Cuyahoga River catches fire. In the photograph can be seen large plumes of smoke from the enormous fire.
