The immigrant boys were playing at Hiram House. The small yard had wooden structures to climb on and an area to play running and racing games.

The Hiram House playground with children was crowded. The makeshift wooden structures were built to keep children busy. The wooden poles were used as slides.

Hiram House was a Settlement House that opened in Cleveland, Ohio in 1896 allowing aid to immigrants. The playground was a safe outlet for the immigrant children.
