This is a picture of the Alta House in Little Italy. It was created in 1900 by John D. Rockefeller for the purpose of doing social service work in the community. Its efforts with that of Father Francis Gasbarre of Holy Rosary church helped to diffuse the racial tension in Little Italy, and helped to ensure the principle of the dignity of all people prevailed in the community.
