Description

The Detroit Superior Bridge, also known as the Veteran's Memorial Bridge, runs over the Cuyahoga River in the lower right of the photo while the Main Avenue Bridge is located to the north. Detroit Superior connects downtown with the west side. Opened on Thanksgiving Day in 1917, the two level bridge carried cars and pedestrian traffic on the upper level and electric streetcars on the lower level. A few times each year a tour of the lower level, now closed, is available.
